Ukraine Says Naval Drones Sank Russian-Owned Cargo Ship in Black Sea
Ukraine says its naval drones struck and sank the Russian-owned container ship Yanina in the Black Sea near Novorossiysk. The vessel’s owner, Rosatom, said two drones hit the ship as it carried civilian cargo, including frozen food and construction materials. Rosatom said the 17 crew members abandoned the sinking vessel and were all rescued safely. It added that the ship was not carrying nuclear material or conducting nuclear-related activities. The reported strike is part of the continuing maritime conflict between Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea. Kyiv has accused Russia of using the route to move sanctioned goods, while Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian ports and vessels during the war.
