National Theatre to Stage African Mythology Musical for Children’s Day
The National Arts Theatre will debut “I Wish I Wish: Battle of the Winds” on Children’s Day 2026. The musical blends African mythology, original music, fantasy costumes and immersive stagecraft to reconnect young audiences with local culture. Tola Akerele, CEO of the National Arts Theatre, says this production proves that locally rooted children’s shows can compete on the global stage. It aims not only to entertain but also to expose children to African stories and shared values. Produced by Proud African Roots, the show will run at the Main Bowl with two performances hosting about 6,000 attendees. Families can expect VFX-inspired makeup, large-scale set designs and live orchestration for a fully immersive theatrical experience.
