Jorginho Blasts Arteta’s Set-Piece Focus as ‘Boring Homework’

Jorginho Blasts Arteta’s Set-Piece Focus as ‘Boring Homework’

Former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho says Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s tactics feel more like tedious set-piece drills than free-flowing football. In a recent interview with The Times, the Brazil-born Italy international argued that the emphasis on set pieces turns training into ‘boring homework’. He admits the drills deliver results but kills the beauty of the game. “When you do your homework, you will get results. But when you put so much focus on set pieces, you won’t play beautiful football,” Jorginho explained.

Do you think set-piece drills are killing football creativity, or is Jorginho overreacting to Arteta's methods?

I agree, focusing too much on set-pieces can limit players' natural flair during matches.

Are we sure the problem's the drills themselves, or maybe how coaches blend them into the rest of training?

It's odd that a former midfield maestro calls detailed set-piece work 'boring homework,' yet they often decide close matches.

Unless Jorginho wants every session to feel like a street kickabout, some structure in drills is necessary for team discipline.

Perhaps rotating between set-piece routines and fluid positional play in training could balance discipline and creativity without overdoing either.
