FIFA Rejects SAFA’s Appeal, Zwane to Serve Three-Match Ban
The South African Football Association’s appeal against midfielder Themba Zwane’s three-game suspension at the 2026 World Cup has been turned down by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee. Zwane’s ban stems from the red card he received against co-hosts Mexico in the tournament opener. SAFA described the punishment as disproportionate in a statement this week. Zwane will miss the Last 32 clash with Canada in Los Angeles on 28 June. Midfielder Teboho Mokoena returns after serving his one-match suspension. Bafana Bafana secured their first-ever appearance in the World Cup knockout stage with a 1-0 win over South Korea, finishing second in Group A behind Mexico.
