NDEIS Founder Alleges Trademark Registry Bias in Summit Name Dispute
The founder of the Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit (NDEIS) has accused the Acting Registrar of the Trademark Registry of deliberate delay and complicity in a dispute over the summit’s name. NDEIS submitted a petition urging the Registry to bar the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce from using “Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit” until trademark ownership is resolved. The organisation says it holds prior rights and fears a “fait accompli” if the Chamber proceeds with its event under the same name. After attending a meeting invitation, NDEIS claims the Acting Registrar was unavailable and that the Federal Ministry has been slow to act. The summit’s legal team warns that failure to secure interim protection may force them to seek a court injunction.
