STS Rejects ₦100M Bribe, Arrests Railway Vandalism Syndicate with ₦400M Loot

STS Rejects ₦100M Bribe, Arrests Railway Vandalism Syndicate with ₦400M Loot

The Special Tactical Squad of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspects linked to the vandalisation of railway infrastructure valued at over ₦400 million. On April 9 in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, operatives led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey intercepted a trailer loaded with 60 tonnes of stolen tracks and sleepers concealed under sacks of groundnut shells. The suspects attempted to bribe officers with ₦100 million but were firmly rebuffed. Investigations point to a syndicate moving stolen materials from Bauchi to Ilorin. The Inspector-General of Police has vowed to step up efforts against economic sabotage and ensure all perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

I agree it's a step forward, but I question if this alone will secure our lines or just push these groups to change tactics.

Interesting that the squad recovered over ₦400 million in vandalism equipment, yet questions remain about how these suspects obtained such large funds so easily.

They dey hail the ₦100M bribe rejection, but targeting only two vandals seems like low-hanging fruit compared to those behind the scenes.

Local communities should report suspicious movements near rail lines and support joint patrol efforts to protect vital transport infrastructure.
