British Envoy Commends Tinubu’s Economic Overhaul Despite Short-Term Pain
During his farewell visit to Revenue House in Abuja, the UK High Commissioner praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. He acknowledged that measures like devaluation and subsidy removal have caused short-term hardship, but said they are essential to restore long-term vitality to Nigeria’s economy. The envoy noted his three-year tenure in Nigeria has been “awesome” and that he will continue briefing the new British Prime Minister on the country’s progress. He also commended the Nigeria Revenue Service as one of the High Commission’s best partners and praised its leadership for implementing tough but necessary reforms. In response, the NRS Chairman expressed regret at the envoy’s departure and thanked him for personal support and technical assistance. He said those engagements have been instrumental in shaping the commission’s reform agenda.
