SSAUTHRIAI Lagos Demands Remote, Hybrid Work and Better Work-Life Balance on Workers’ Day
On Workers’ Day, the Lagos chapter of SSAUTHRIAI urged universities, teaching hospitals and research institutes to adopt flexible work arrangements. They want remote and hybrid systems that respect off-duty hours, ensure safe workplaces and provide adequate leave. Union leaders noted employers’ concerns over productivity, operational costs and a culture favouring physical presence. To address this, they recommended result-oriented performance metrics, phased policy rollouts, management training and stronger labour laws supported by government incentives. Senior officials also promised to intensify collective bargaining efforts and push for better minimum wage terms amid rising inflation. The ceremony honoured Mr Effiong Innocent with an Exemplary Service Award for his dedicated contributions.
