Ismael Saibari Sets African Record as Morocco Secure Last 32 Spot

Ismael Saibari Sets African Record as Morocco Secure Last 32 Spot — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Morocco clinched second place in Group C with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Haiti to advance to the Round of 32. After trailing early, Achraf Hakimi’s volley and a strike from Wilson Isidor forced Morocco to rally. Ismael Saibari’s equaliser not only levelled the score but made him the first African player to score in all three group games at a World Cup. Saibari’s third goal also marked the first time since Asamoah Gyan in 2010 that an African has netted three times in a single tournament group stage. Soufiane Rahimi and Gessime Yassine added late strikes to seal the victory and join Brazil in the knockout rounds.

The win felt a bit too convenient after conceding early, even with Saibari's equaliser pushing them forward.

I'm not convinced one player's record can overshadow the team's shaky defence against Haiti's counterattacks.

Focusing on tightening that backline and building on Hakimi's threat from wide could secure Morocco a smoother path in the knockout stage.
