FG Targets Food Security and Jobs Through Livestock, Agrifood Investment

The Federal Government says improving food security and creating jobs through agriculture and livestock development remain key priorities as Nigerians continue to face high food prices and unemployment. Speaking at the International Conference of the Agrifood Systems Stakeholders Forum at the University of Port Harcourt, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, called for stronger collaboration to transform Nigeria’s agrifood sector. He was represented by Victor Egbon, Director of Ruminant and Monogastric Development. The minister identified flooding, drought, land degradation, rising farm input costs, animal diseases, post-harvest losses, weak market links and limited access to finance as major challenges. He said investment in feed production, hatcheries, dairy collection, animal health, processing, storage, logistics and waste-to-wealth ventures could expand food production and create jobs for women and young people.
