AI Camera Nabs Nigerian in Phuket After 877-Day Visa Overstay
Tourist police in Phuket have arrested a 24-year-old Nigerian national after an AI facial recognition system flagged him in Kathu district. He had reportedly overstayed under the 60-day visa exemption scheme by 877 days. Officers used a Mobile AI Camera installed in a smart patrol vehicle to scan faces in busy tourist areas. The system alerted them to two individuals wanted for visa offences, leading to his arrest on May 8, 2026. He has been charged with remaining in Thailand after his permission expired and is now at Kathu Police Station for legal proceedings and deportation procedures.
