Pan-Delta Youth Forum Slams Abuja ‘Solidarity Walk’, Demands Audit and Decentralisation of Tantita Contract
The Pan-Niger Delta Youth Forum has rejected today’s Peace, Unity and Solidarity Walk in Abuja as unrepresentative and driven by narrow personal interests. It condemned the former Ijaw Youth Council president’s stance and called for his immediate resignation to preserve the council’s integrity. The group raised concerns over the proposed renewal of Tantita Security Services’ pipeline surveillance contract, noting that oil revenues have declined and illegal activities persist under the current arrangement. It urged an independent forensic audit to assess the contract’s performance and cost effectiveness. The forum argued that centralising surveillance in one company sidelines host communities and ethnic nationalities. It recommended decentralising responsibilities to local operators to boost participation, competition and accountability in line with the Petroleum Industry Act. It called on the Federal Government, National Assembly and NNPC to ensure transparent oversight, foster inclusive engagement and prioritise sustainable development over narrow endorsements.
