Airfares in Nigeria Are High Because of Scarcity, Not Greed
In recent months, Nigerians have faced steep airfares. Many blame airlines for being greedy. But the real issue is scarcity. High demand meets limited aircraft, routes, and infrastructure. Insecurity on highways and unreliable rail services push more travelers to fly. This higher demand strains the aviation sector and drives prices up. Prices simply reflect the imbalance between supply and demand. To bring fares down, we must improve security on roads and rails. Safer land travel will ease pressure on flights. We also need stronger policy support, stable regulations, and affordable credit for airlines to grow their fleets and routes. Summoning ministers and shouting about greed won’t solve the problem. Only investments in security and a healthier aviation market will make air travel more affordable. About PACT PACT is a coalition of citizens committed to national advancement and transformation.
