Flood Alert: FG Warns of High Riverine Flood Risk in 33 States This Week
The Federal Government has issued a seven-day flood alert, warning that rising river levels could cause riverine flooding in 33 states from 19 to 25 August 2026. The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency said communities in vulnerable floodplains should move to higher ground immediately. States listed among those at risk include Kaduna, Niger, Taraba, Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, Ogun and Kogi. The agency also urged state and local governments to activate early-warning systems and emergency response plans to protect residents and reduce possible losses.
