Suspected Bandits Kill One and Abduct Travellers on Ibadan–Ijebu Expressway
Fear and uncertainty gripped commuters on the Ibadan–Ijebu Expressway on the evening of April 18, 2026, after suspected bandits opened fire shortly after 7:00 PM. Eyewitnesses report that at least one person was killed and several travellers were abducted during the attack. Families of those travelling along the route are in distress as they await news of loved ones. Residents of nearby communities have urged the public to verify the whereabouts of relatives who may have been on the road at the time. This incident follows a series of violent attacks in Oyo State, including the March abduction of four cocoa farmers near Ibadan and the January killing of five forest guards at the National Park Office in Oloka Village. A police spokesperson confirmed one rescued kidnapping victim and recovery of the abducted vehicle in a recent statement. Calls for a stronger security presence and proactive measures along isolated highways have intensified. Some residents also referenced a video by Nnamdi Kanu to highlight the broader threats facing the region.
