Joeboy Warns Ego and Competition Are Killing Artist Collaborations

Joeboy Warns Ego and Competition Are Killing Artist Collaborations

Nigerian afrobeats star Joeboy says collaboration in the music industry suffers when artists approach features with a competitive mindset. Speaking in a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, he explained that he only collaborates with artists he’s comfortable with to avoid ego clashes. Joeboy added that when he features someone, he wants them to outshine him, since that’s the point of bringing in a different style. “If I feature you, I expect you to outshine me in the song,” he said. Reggae singer Wizard Chan agreed, blaming artist egos for interference in the creative process. He argued that collaboration should highlight each contributor’s unique sound rather than spark rivalry.
