What Does the Bible Really Say About the Earth’s Shape?

Many biblical passages describe the earth as a fixed, level plane with a solid vault of sky above. In this view, the sun, moon and stars move within that vault rather than the earth revolving in space. Nowhere does scripture mention a spinning globe orbiting the sun, the existence of vast outer space or modern concepts like the Big Bang and gravity holding oceans and people on all sides of a sphere. As someone who approaches the Bible from an agnostic perspective, I’m curious: how do scholars and believers reconcile these ancient descriptions with our contemporary understanding of cosmology?

Have you noticed how some scriptures describe a flat earth with a solid sky vault instead of a spinning globe?

I've seen that too – those verses seem to imply a flat, motionless earth topped by a solid dome.

The description points out that nowhere does scripture explicitly mention the earth orbiting the sun or spinning in space.

Labeling every ancient description as literal flat earth might ignore poetic language and the historical context of early biblical writers.

It could help to compare those passages with modern scientific findings before drawing firm conclusions about biblical intent.
