Meloso: Napoli Was Right to Reject PSG’s Bid for Osimhen

Former Napoli sporting director Mauro Meloso has backed club president Aurelio De Laurentiis’s decision to turn down Paris Saint-Germain’s offer for striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Scudetto triumph. Despite PSG’s attempts to lure him alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli refused to weaken their squad after title success and the departure of their coach and sporting director. Meloso argues that rejecting those bids sent a strong message of loyalty to the club, even if some outcomes didn’t work out as planned.

PSG probably saw Osimhen as a marquee signing, but Napoli's loyalty suggests they value team cohesion over immediate profit.

I'm not convinced rejecting a huge bid guarantees success; money could have funded key reinforcements in other areas.

Napoli should reinvest savings into youth development and training facilities to secure future talents and sustain competitive edge.
