Ukpeliede Community Blocks Oil Company Access Over School Contract Dispute
Residents of Ukpeliede Community in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State have blocked the access road to Renaissance Energy’s facility. They say the company has held up contract papers for Ukeamezhinim Nigeria Limited, the indigenous firm awarded a school building project. Elder James Henry explained, “We will not clear the road until the documents are released.” Protesters carried placards reading “No contract award, no access” and “Don’t play politics with our project.” Renaissance Energy’s Host Community Development Trust manager referred questions to the Public Relations Department, and no comment was available at press time. The blockade remains as company and community representatives meet in Port Harcourt.
