Anambra Court Jails Fake Native Doctor for 31 Years Over N5 Million Fraud
An Anambra State High Court has sentenced a self-styled native doctor to 31 years for defrauding his client of more than N5 million. Justice D.A. Onyefulu found Akinyola Ogundale guilty of obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion under the Advance Fee Fraud Act and the state’s Criminal Code Law. The court heard he used threats, spiritual intimidation and ritual claims to pressure the victim, Juliet Onabe, into handing over cash. Evidence included bank transfer records, witness testimony and the defendant’s own extra-judicial admission of receiving funds for “ritual services.” Ogundale absconded after bail was granted, forcing the trial to continue in his absence. He was sentenced to 21 years on the first count and 10 years on the second, with both terms to run consecutively.
