Balotelli Explains Why He’s Backing Ghana for World Cup 2026

Balotelli Explains Why He’s Backing Ghana for World Cup 2026

Mario Balotelli has revealed he will support the Black Stars after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup. Ghana reached the round of 32 by finishing among the best third-placed teams in a group featuring England, Croatia and Panama. “I’m from Ghana and I’m proud of that,” Balotelli told Men in Blazers. “There is no Italy at the tournament, so my support goes to Ghana.” Born in Palermo to Ghanaian parents and adopted by an Italian family, the 35-year-old striker gained Italian citizenship in 2008 and went on to represent Italy at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. Now playing for UAE side Al-Ittifaq FC, Balotelli has also starred for Inter Milan, AC Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool. He will be cheering on the Black Stars when they face Colombia in the round of 32.

What do you think made Balotelli embrace Ghana instead of sticking with Italy fans? Could this change how supporters view national loyalty?

Is there more than football ambition behind his choice to back Ghana instead of Italy?

It's revealing that Ghana reached the round of 32 without much fanfare, finishing among the best third-placed teams in a tough group.

I respect his pride, but na jumping ship tactic this one. Changing allegiances after Italy's exit feels more opportunistic than heartfelt support.

If you're a fan, focus on celebrating Ghana's progress and building community support rather than debating one player's changing allegiances.
