Citizens’ Rights Group Demands Independent Review of Ajiran Deaths Probe
The Centre for Citizens Right Protection has urged the Inspector-General of Police to order a fresh, impartial review of the probe into two deaths in Ajiran Community, Lagos State. The group says the ongoing trial of Alhaji Tajudeen Akanbi must rest on solid evidence rather than speculation. CCRP spokespersons noted recent claims by social media activist Martin Vincent Otse raised questions about how evidence was handled and whether all leads were pursued. They stressed that victims’ families deserve justice and the accused retains the presumption of innocence. The organisation wants a specialized team of homicide investigators and forensic experts to re-examine physical, digital and documentary evidence. They also called for re-interviews of key witnesses and a review of original procedures to ensure no relevant inquiry was overlooked. CCRP appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and prosecuting authorities to act on credible new information while resisting public pressure. They urged the courts to continue judging the case strictly on admissible evidence and called on media and commentators to avoid prejudicing the trial.
