Kentucky Man Gets Life Sentence for Killing His Girlfriend and Her 13-Year-Old Daughter
A Kentucky man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for murdering his girlfriend and her young daughter. Joshua Cottrell admitted he stabbed 37-year-old nurse Kayla Blake and her 13-year-old daughter Kennedi McWorter at their Morehead home in September 2025. In April 2026, Cottrell pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and tampering with evidence after moving the victims’ bodies to obscure the crime scene. Rowan Circuit Judge Elizabeth Davis sentenced him to two life terms without parole plus five years for the evidence charges. Court records show Cottrell had been released in 2019 after serving 14 years for a previous manslaughter conviction. Blake was praised for her compassion in addiction recovery, and Kennedi was remembered as a bright student and dedicated softball player.
