‘People Are Killed Openly’: Kano NDC Candidate Blasts Gov Yusuf Over Insecurity
During a BBC Hausa interview on May 31, the Kano NDC governorship candidate Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo criticised the state administration for worsening insecurity. He said killings, kidnappings and armed attacks have surged in Tsanyawa, Shanono and Gwarzo LGAs, with many victims held in captivity for months. Gwarzo warned that violent crimes are no longer confined to rural areas. He questioned why residents are still being murdered openly and called for stronger government action to protect lives and property. He also challenged the “Kano First” initiative, arguing that promises of unity among leaders have failed to curb attacks. Despite heightened official activity during the new deputy governor’s inauguration, multiple killings occurred, he noted. The state government has not yet responded to these allegations.
