Amichi Citizens Ask Soludo to Probe Commissioner Over Disputed ADU Tenure Extension

Concerned residents of Amichi in Anambra State have asked Governor Chukwuma Soludo to investigate the disputed extension of former Amichi Development Union President-General Cletus Udebuani’s tenure by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, Ifeanyi Ezeaka. The residents said Udebuani’s four-year tenure ended on August 6, 2026, while a court order had restrained parties from taking steps that could affect the union’s leadership dispute. They alleged that the commissioner issued a letter extending the tenure on August 7, before later asking the community’s Board of Trustees to submit names for a caretaker committee. The Board of Trustees is expected to convene an emergency general assembly to decide on a caretaker arrangement under the ADU constitution. The concerned citizens also want clarity over an alleged voice note by counsel representing the state government and the commissioner, which they claim was circulated in support of the disputed extension. They urged the governor to ensure transparency, respect for the court process and a lawful transition in the affairs of the union.
