Presidency Explains Differences in Kidnapping Responses for Adelabu’s Family and Ogbomoso School Abduction
On June 7, the presidency rejected parallels drawn between the swift rescue of former power minister Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons and the ongoing abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso. Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said critics ignored key differences between the two incidents. He explained that Adelabu’s relatives were kidnapped by an urban criminal gang focused on ransom, while the Ogbomoso victims were taken by terrorists operating from remote forest camps. Ajayi assured that security agencies are treating both cases seriously and will not prioritise one group of victims over another based on social status. He urged Nigerians to celebrate the safe return of Adelabu’s family and continue to pray for the rescue of the remaining hostages. Security forces credited intelligence and tactical teams for the successful operation that recovered Adelabu’s relatives unharmed and arrested several suspects. Efforts to rescue the Ogbomoso schoolchildren and staff remain ongoing.
