Pepper Spray Panic at Edo Stadium: Hospital Confirms No Child Fatalities
The Edo Specialist Hospital has dismissed claims that five pupils died after fainting during the Children’s Day event at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. A pepper spray used by bouncers to quell unruly behaviour caused several children to collapse and be rushed to the hospital. Chief Medical Director Dr Anthonia Njoku explained that medics responded immediately, placing some pupils on hard surfaces for effective resuscitation. She said all children are now stable and thanked the governor for his support. Mrs Edesili Anani, coordinator of the Edo governor’s wife’s office, confirmed on a fact-finding visit that the children have been discharged. She described the incident as unfortunate but praised the swift response, stressing that child safety remains the state’s priority.
