ASFW Nairobi 2024: How Africa Sourcing Fashion Week Is Elevating the Continent’s Style Revolution
Nairobi hosted the 5th edition of Africa Sourcing Fashion Week (ASFW) from April 30 to May 2. Over 3,500 visitors from more than 30 countries gathered to explore textiles, leather, accessories, footwear and home décor. The event featured panel discussions, runway shows, designer pop-ups and networking sessions on sustainability, circular fashion and digital sourcing trends. Trade and Fairs Group CEO Skander Negasi highlighted ASFW’s growth since its launch in Ethiopia and its expansion to Kenya and Senegal. He noted that Gen Z consumers now demand quality, traceability and fair wages, driven by pride in their African heritage. A new partnership with global event organiser Messe Frankfurt will bring leading international brands to ASFW Nairobi and boost Africa’s place in the global value chain. Executives from Messe Frankfurt, the EU delegation to Kenya and the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute discussed how technology, tailored trade schemes and coordinated efforts can enhance competitiveness, unlock market access and create jobs. As ASFW looks ahead to its next Nairobi edition, the platform remains a vital bridge connecting African manufacturers with global buyers and addressing quality, capacity and finance challenges to accelerate the continent’s fashion and leather industries.
