NFF Debunks Fake Ashley Plumptre WAFCON Exclusion Story, Urges Media to Verify

NFF Debunks Fake Ashley Plumptre WAFCON Exclusion Story, Urges Media to Verify

The Nigeria Football Federation has appealed to journalists and public figures to verify news before sharing it. This call follows a fake Facebook report claiming Ashley Plumptre was upset over her omission from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. NFF’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, confirmed the story is entirely false. She highlighted that Plumptre has never had a personal Facebook account and that no official squad list has yet been submitted by the coach. Ashley Plumptre also warned fans about cloned accounts using her identity to scam the public. She said she’s working with contacts abroad to have these fake pages taken down. Meanwhile, the President Federation Cup women’s semi-finals are set. FC Robo Queens face Heartland Queens in Benin City, and Sunshine Queens take on Nasarawa Amazons in Enugu, both kick-off at 4pm.

Maybe it's unfair to blame only the media when fans and influencers share unverified posts without checking facts.

Media outlets should adopt clear verification steps or official NFF sources before publishing any squad news to avoid confusion.
