Xavi Eyes AFCON Role as Next Coaching Challenge
Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez says he would welcome a chance to coach at the Africa Cup of Nations. He revealed in an interview that a national team role would suit his family life and allow him time with his young children. He is keen to lead a side at a World Cup, Euros, AFCON or Asian Cup. Xavi spent just under three seasons as Barcelona coach before his May 2024 exit. He guided the team to the 2022–23 LaLiga title and lifted the Supercopa de España. He also won seven trophies with Qatar’s Al-Sadd but believes an international job fits his current situation best. As a player, Xavi made over 1,000 career appearances and starred in Spain’s Euro 2008 and 2012 wins, as well as the 2010 World Cup triumph. He remains Spain’s top assist provider in Champions League history with 30 assists. He hopes his passing vision and experience can boost any national squad on the big stage.
