Tijani Fatai Takes Helm as 42nd Lagos State Commissioner of Police

Tijani Fatai Takes Helm as 42nd Lagos State Commissioner of Police

Tijani Fatai has officially assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for Lagos State. His appointment was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command. A native of Agege, Fatai enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 after earning a BA in Philosophy from Ogun State University. He has since held strategic roles nationwide, from the Maritime Force Headquarters in Lagos to command postings in Borno and Edo states. He succeeds CP Olohundare Jimoh, who led the command from February 2025 to March 2026. Fatai pledges to consolidate ongoing reforms, strengthen inter-agency cooperation and foster community partnerships. The Lagos State Police Command calls on residents to support the new leadership as it works to enhance security, deepen professionalism and protect lives and property.

How do you think his Agege roots and BA in Philosophy will influence his approach as Lagos State Commissioner of Police?

You reckon his Agege upbringing adds streetwise insight, or his philosophy degree pushes more analysis than action?

I doubt a Philosophy BA will truly change how he approaches everyday policing in Lagos.

It's interesting that his appointment was confirmed by the Police PRO, but we've seen confirmations before that didn't lead to visible change on the streets.

Not every commissioner manages to reduce crime rates quickly, so expecting immediate results from Fatai might be unrealistic.

A good first step could be tracking response times to emergency calls, then sharing those metrics with the public for accountability.
