APC Drops Suswam, Elegbeleye and 24 Others from Final NASS Candidate List

The APC’s National Working Committee has removed former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam and ex-House member Gbenga Elegbeleye from its final list of National Assembly candidates for the 2027 elections. A total of 26 aspirants—five senatorial and 19 House of Reps hopefuls—were replaced following the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee recommendations. The substitutions span nine states, including Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi. The revised list, formally forwarded to INEC, shows Suswam losing the Benue North East ticket to Emmanuel Memga Udende and Elegbeleye’s Ondo North slot going to Olajide Ipinsagbe. Several other tickets also changed hands in line with the Electoral Act guidelines.

Given Suswam's track record in Benue politics, dropping him now suggests internal party tensions or shifting alliances may be at play.

I'm not convinced that removing experienced candidates guarantees fresher perspectives; it could simply sideline loyal party members for unclear reasons.

Local party structures should demand clear explanations from the national committee to avoid speculation, make sure say everyone understands candidate selection steps.
