Angela Lansbury was born on October 16, 1925 in London to actress Moyna Macgill and timber merchant Edgar Lansbury. After her father’s death when she was nine, she found comfort in performing and later trained at drama schools in London and New York. She made her screen debut in Gaslight (1944) and gained early acclaim in National Velvet. Lansbury earned a Tony Award for her Broadway role in Mame (1966) and left a lasting mark as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote (1984–1996). She married Peter Shaw in 1949 and had two children. Lansbury died on October 11, 2022 in Los Angeles at age 96. Over her decades-long career, she built an estimated net worth of $70 million, including a Manhattan condominium purchase in 2006.
