Why ADC’s Northern Surge Isn’t About Atiku but Tinubu’s Policies

Why ADC’s Northern Surge Isn’t About Atiku but Tinubu’s Policies — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I saw a tweet from an APC member aiming to undermine Obidient unity and pit Southerners against Northerners in ADC. But ADC’s growth in the North isn’t driven by Atiku Abubakar. It’s fueled by widespread hardship and poverty under Tinubu’s government. Peter Obi is quite familiar in the North. He won Plateau and Taraba in 2023 and secured strong votes in Kaduna, Nasarawa, Adamawa, and Benue. That spread shows real recognition. We forgave his past strategy, and we shouldn’t hold grudges when other parties used religious tactics in 2023. Our focus is on the reality: Nigerians are suffering in markets and homes. Everyone in this coalition can offer a better alternative. Tinubu must go!

What do you think is driving ADC's Northern growth if not Atiku's influence and southern sentiments?

Tinubu's policy agenda may influence voters, but strong local networks and issue-based campaigning likely drive ADC's surge in the North.

It does seem like economic hardship might be a stronger factor than any single political figure in that region, though.

I'm not convinced ADC's surge ignores Atiku entirely; regional loyalties still shape voter behavior more than we admit.

Focusing on policy accountability and local economic solutions could help ADC supporters hold leaders responsible beyond headline politics.
