Obasanjo Denies Tinubu Plot Claims, Backs Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance
The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of using his political interventions to weaken opposition forces ahead of the 2027 election. The group alleged that his support for a Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso alliance was a smokescreen for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, Akin Osuntokun, rejected the allegation as baseless. He said Obasanjo personally helped to bring Obi and Kwankwaso together and remains a major supporter of their proposed joint ticket. The disagreement follows Obasanjo’s renewed exchange with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over allegations connected to the failed third-term bid during Obasanjo’s administration. Opposition leaders are continuing consultations as they seek a united platform for 2027.
