CSOs Raise Alarm Over 34% INEC Readiness Ahead of Ekiti Governorship Poll
Civil society organisations under an EU-supported democratic governance programme have rated INEC’s preparedness for the June 20, 2026 Ekiti governorship election at just 34%. They raised concerns over unfunded election expenses, dilapidated offices and vehicles, and incomplete BVAS and network mapping checks. The assessment warns that this low readiness level could undermine election credibility. The CSOs also highlighted a calm but uncompetitive political environment. They pointed to the absence of female and PWD candidates, elite consensus around the incumbent, and a punitive campaign signage levy hitting opposition parties hardest. Security risks were flagged in four LGAs, with threats of violence, vote-buying and possible misuse of force. The report urges INEC to fast-track funding, strengthen voter education and ensure accessibility for vulnerable groups.
