US and Iran Exchange Military Strikes as Iranian Team Secures World Cup Visas

Fresh clashes between the United States and Iran risked unraveling a shaky ceasefire in the Middle East even as Iranian footballers received visas to play in the FIFA World Cup. The US Central Command said American forces targeted Iranian radar installations on Qeshm Island and Goruk after shooting down drones bound for the Strait of Hormuz. Air raid sirens and explosions were reported in Kuwait and Bahrain following the strikes. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards retaliated with ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain. The US intercepted six of the seven missiles, and there are no reports of US casualties. Kuwait’s military confirmed its air defences were active against the incoming missiles.
