Ejiofor Demands Criminal Investigation of Fapohunda’s Alleged Ethnic Hate Speech
Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has formally petitioned Nigeria’s security and law-enforcement agencies to probe Akin Fapohunda over alleged hate-filled ethnic remarks. He has given authorities 72 hours to launch an inquiry or face a direct criminal complaint. Ejiofor warned that unchecked ethnic intimidation poses a grave threat to national unity and democratic stability. He cited comparisons to the Rwanda genocide and recalled violent ethnic tensions during the 2023 elections in Lagos State. He stressed that security agencies must act impartially and uphold their constitutional duty. Any silence or selective enforcement, he said, would embolden dangerous hate speech and undermine public confidence ahead of the next polls.
