‘Repentant’ Bandits Kill District Head’s Grandson, Abduct Nine in Birnin Gwari
Armed men claiming to be “repentant” bandits ambushed a commercial vehicle at Kwanan Giginya along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road. They shot dead the driver, Mallam Ibrahim Adamu—grandson of a Birnin Gwari Emirate district head—and abducted five passengers before fleeing. In a separate raid in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari LGA, four farmers were seized at gunpoint and taken to an unknown location. These twin attacks have heightened fears among rural communities along the corridor. Residents report that armed groups often seize motorcycles, phones and cash in addition to carrying out killings and kidnappings. They say violence has disrupted farming, trade and travel despite reported peace deals. Community leaders are calling on security agencies to increase patrols along the highway and boost protection for vulnerable farming settlements.
