NSCDC Clears Mining Marshals Commander Onoja of ₦2bn Diversion, Death Cover-Up Claims

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has cleared Mining Marshals Commander ACC John Onoja Attah of allegations involving an alleged ₦2 billion diversion and an alleged cover-up of the death of DSC Levi Agada during an operation in Nasarawa State. The NSCDC said its investigation found no evidence linking Onoja, the unit’s management team or its lead prosecutor to the claims. It also said there was no evidence of premeditated intent in Agada’s death. The Corps, however, sanctioned 79 personnel for separate misconduct. Two Mining Marshals operatives were dismissed and recommended for prosecution over the alleged unlawful supply of firearms to illegal miners.

What information did the NSCDC rely on to clear the commander of both the alleged diversion and death cover-up claims?

The allegations are serious, especially because they involve public funds and the reported death of an officer during an operation.

An internal clearance may not settle public concerns on its own; people will likely want the findings explained clearly.

Publishing a clear timeline of the investigation and its conclusions could help separate verified facts from allegations.
