NFSS Seeks Partnership with EFCC to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Fight and Tackle Illegal Mining
The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has formally requested a strategic collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enhance efforts against corruption, economic sabotage, and illegal mining. During a courtesy visit on April 2, 2026, NFSS Commander-General Dr. Adewole Joshua Osatimehin commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede’s leadership and the agency’s recent successes in prosecuting high-profile cases. He highlighted the NFSS’s extensive grassroots network, with village intelligence officers across all states, as a valuable asset for tracking illicit financial flows. Dr. Osatimehin also appealed for capacity-building support, seeking EFCC training for NFSS finance, administration, and operational officers. He stressed the urgent need to secure Nigeria’s vast forest reserves, national parks, and grazing reserves from criminal exploitation. In response, Chairman Olukoyede welcomed the partnership, emphasising the importance of inter-agency cooperation to address crimes planned and executed from forest hideouts. He agreed to provide training support and affirmed the EFCC’s readiness to work with any organisation whose mandate aligns with its anti-corruption objectives.
