Anambra Judge Warns Prosecutors: Produce RRS Officer or Drop Charges in 3-Year Case
Justice Onyinye Anumonye of an Anambra State High Court has ordered the prosecution to present its key witness in a three-year-old attempted murder trial or withdraw the charges. The suit, State vs. Chibueze Uzuegbunam and Nonso Nwoye, has seen repeated adjournments as the Investigation Police Officer attached to the Rapid Response Squad failed to appear despite multiple court orders. The judge noted that the officer’s transfer to Bayelsa State is not a valid excuse, saying travel between Bayelsa and Awka takes only two hours. New dates were set for accelerated hearings. Justice Anumonye warned that if the witness is not produced on the next date, the defendants will be released. Bail motions remain denied, and no costs will be awarded against the prosecution.
