Amichi Stakeholders Challenge Alleged Extension of ADU Executive Tenure
A leadership dispute in the Amichi Development Union (ADU), Nnewi South LGA, has intensified after community stakeholders alleged that the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs extended the tenure of the union’s executive. The dispute stems from the 2022 election of ADU President-General Cletus Udebuani, which is still before the Anambra State High Court in Nnewi. On July 21, 2026, the court reportedly ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and barred a fresh election pending the case. The concerned members argue that the union’s constitution provides a single four-year, non-renewable tenure and assigns interim management to its Registered Trustees during a leadership vacuum. They say Udebuani’s tenure ended on August 6 and contend that the commissioner’s directive cannot override the union’s constitution or the court order. They have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene, uphold the rule of law and allow the Registered Trustees to manage the union’s affairs pending a lawful resolution of the case.
