Is Nigeria’s Security Apparatus Biased Against Southern Christians?
I’ve observed Nigeria’s security forces rolling out high-tech drones and a new Counter Terrorism Command Center in Abuja with much fanfare. Yet advance warnings of attacks on Christian communities in Benue, Borno and elsewhere go unheeded, while security units swiftly target IPOB activists in the Southeast under a terrorism label no other country recognizes. This pattern tracks back to leadership: the NSCDC Counter Terrorism Unit is led by officers appointed through a Northern-dominated chain of command reporting to an NSA linked to Fulani militias. With new Turkish military cooperation and training by a Salafist-linked firm on the horizon, this apparatus risks becoming an instrument of religious and regional suppression. If you have insight on its operations or leadership, please share.
