Gov. Otti Plans 250-Room Five-Star Hotel in Umuahia to Boost Tourism

Gov. Otti Plans 250-Room Five-Star Hotel in Umuahia to Boost Tourism

Governor Alex Otti has finalised plans with a leading hospitality firm to build a 250-room, five-star hotel in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital. The project aims to enhance tourism and attract business to the city. The governor announced at a civic reception that the site has been identified and a partnership agreement will be signed this weekend ahead of a groundbreaking ceremony. He promised the hotel will bear a brand name Nigerians will recognise and take pride in. Otti highlighted other ongoing initiatives, including the Umuahia Township Stadium and the Amachara Specialist Hospital. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing every project it starts and delivering sustainable development rooted in service and public trust. Local leaders praised the governor’s performance and assured him of continued support. They pledged to back his re-election in 2027, pointing to improved healthcare, social security for the elderly, and plans like the Abia International Sports Center as evidence of his transformative leadership.

It's interesting that such a large investment is planned for Umuahia, given past delays on infrastructure projects in the state.

I'm not convinced high-end tourists will flock there if roads and power supply remain unreliable, though the idea sounds impressive.

Focusing on improved road access, consistent electricity, and affordable transport could make the hotel project more appealing to both tourists and business travelers.
