Our Narrow Escape from a Bandit Kidnap Plot in Zamfara

Our Narrow Escape from a Bandit Kidnap Plot in Zamfara

On 18 November 2025, I travelled from Kano to Zamfara to move my family into a newly rented apartment in Tsauni. We’d already paid for the place after checking with neighbours that it was safe. From the moment I arrived, something felt wrong. A week passed and I still felt uneasy. Then two men came asking for the former tenant. I warned my wife and decided we would not spend the night in that house. We packed our bags and waited for a vehicle that never came. At dusk, I quietly escorted my wife and children out in small groups to avoid drawing attention. Ten minutes later, bandits invaded the compound. They found our empty home and left neighbours in fear. The next morning, I reported the incident to the police and asked for a refund from the landlord. God spared us that night and I learned to trust my instincts, avoid isolated areas and report any suspicious activity immediately.

What made you trust that neighbourhood even after your gut warned something felt off in Zamfara?

I totally agree, that uneasy feeling matters, but we figured seeing neighbours around might keep danger at bay.

Blind faith? More like I sized up the odds then rolled with it—sometimes hope wins over fear.

It's interesting that neighbours assured safety before you moved in, yet the feeling of unease persisted all week.

Relying solely on neighbours' assurances seems risky; critical follow-up checks on actual security arrangements might have prevented that narrow escape.

Next time, install a basic CCTV and connect with local security volunteers before relocating; having these in place can ease lingering doubts.
