Oparanozie Calls for Qualified Coach After Super Falcons Miss World Cup

Former Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie says Nigeria needs a more qualified coach and an injection of younger players after the team failed to secure a place at the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The Falcons lost 2-1 to South Africa in Thursday’s play-in tie. Thembi Kgatlana and Refiloe Jane gave South Africa a two-goal lead before Christy Ucheibe scored a late penalty for Nigeria. Oparanozie said the team reacted too late in the match and should have begun with the same urgency they showed late on. The defeat means the Super Falcons will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since their debut at the inaugural tournament in 1991.
