Nigeria’s Learning Passport Hits 2.2 Million Users, Plans Offline Hubs for Remote Areas
At a National Children’s Day event in Kaduna, the Nigerian Learning Passport team revealed that more than 2.2 million learners have registered on the platform since its launch in March 2022. Backed by UNICEF and the Global Partnership for Education and hosted by the Federal Ministry of Education, the online portal delivers literacy and numeracy lessons on Android, iOS, laptops and desktops. So far, 24 states have launched the initiative, with Gombe joining in April. To tackle poor internet in remote communities, the programme is rolling out offline learning hubs. These will allow children in hard-to-reach areas to access lessons without connectivity. UNICEF has trained around 70,000 teachers and is promoting a blended approach that combines classroom teaching with AI-enabled tools. The long-term goal is to extend the platform to all 36 states and the FCT, ensuring every child in Nigeria can learn with a single click.
