UNIPORT’s 10.7MW Solar Hybrid Plant Now Powering Campus

UNIPORT’s 10.7MW Solar Hybrid Plant Now Powering Campus

The National Rural Electrification Agency has commissioned a 10.7MW solar hybrid power installation at the University of Port Harcourt. This marks the largest clean energy project delivered under the Energising Education Programme so far. The new plant will provide reliable electricity for lecture halls, laboratories and student residences. Launched under the previous administration and sustained by the current government, the Energising Education Programme aims to bring affordable renewable power to federal universities and teaching hospitals. A parallel initiative, the Energising Economies Programme, extends similar support to markets and shopping centres across Nigeria. This milestone underscores the federal government’s commitment to transforming teaching, learning and research through sustainable energy solutions.
