UNIEC Delegation in Abuja Demands Unconditional Release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
On July 18, 2025, a seven-man delegation from the United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in detention in Abuja. The group reaffirmed calls for his immediate and unconditional release, citing his rendition from Kenya over four years ago without due legal process. Led by Justice Alpha Ikpeama, the delegation includes Maj. Gen. Collins R.U. Ihekire (Rtd.) and Professor Nick Eze. They highlighted multiple Nigerian court orders and a decisive Kenyan ruling that demand Kanu’s freedom and compensation. UNIEC Worldwide appeals directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate Kanu’s release, rehabilitation, and payout. The council stresses that upholding the rule of law will strengthen peace and stability in Nigeria’s Eastern region. About UNIEC Worldwide: An independent, non-sectarian body of Igbo elder statesmen, UNIEC promotes justice, alternative dispute resolution, and community development across Nigeria and the Diaspora.
